The “Max for ECO” concept for Prusa 3D printers

A purely eco-friendly solution for the overseas transport of renowned 3D printers, awarded ‘Packaging of the Year 2024’.

A fully recyclable and reliable solution

The ‘Max for ECO’ concept is a one-way overseas packaging solution for the new version of the Prusa 3D printer with an integrated enclosure.

The aim of the development was to create environmentally friendly and fully recyclable packaging. Furthermore, given the distant destination, the customer required the weight to be reduced as much as possible in order to minimise transport costs. We successfully eliminated all materials that are difficult to recycle and heavy, and focused primarily on the often underappreciated properties of cardboard. Most of the components of this packaging are therefore made of ‘paper’.

How the packaging works

The base, outer shell and internal support components are made from corrugated cardboard specially treated for overseas transport. The key components of the set are the internal support elements made from a special expanded PE foam. This material is not very common in the packaging sector on our market.

Pressboard instead of wood

The conventional wooden pallet has been replaced by a moulded pallet made from moisture-resistant corrugated cardboard. In this design, PET strapping has been replaced by kraft strapping.

Secure fastening using PE foam

The PE foam cushioning offers optimal physical properties, including mechanical resistance to compression and vibration, high scratch resistance and a lower weight than conventional foams, such as cross-linked foams. The material is made from 30% recycled content and is fully recyclable.

Perfect protection thanks to its shape

The bevelled shape of the top of the outer packaging follows the shape of the packaged product, but also prevents unauthorised stacking of another pallet unit by an unprofessional carrier.
